New trend alert! Black finishes are back. A big trend that has been in the design spotlight lately is brass, but don’t be fooled, brass isn’t the only show in town these days. I’m here to tell you that BLACK is the new brass. Designers have been using black fixtures and finishes for a few years now, but it’s finally catching everyone’s attention and products are finally becoming readily available. Here’s what you will find if you are looking to jump on this trend.
We are seeing matte black finishes in lighting, hardware and plumbing fixtures dominate the design scene. The best thing about black is that it pairs well with just about anything. Mixing metals has become a popular design trend and black is the perfect partner for any metal. I personally love the look of matte black with satin brass, but black goes well with silver too, pairing well with chrome or polished nickel.
Matte black faucets have become truly covetable with their sleek contemporary lines while being soft and luxurious to the touch. These black fixtures can add sophistication when mixed with high end lighting and furnishings. They are also a great down to earth touch when used in a cottage or country setting. I recently completed two country house projects where the dominating faucet color of choice was black.
Cabinet and door hardware are two other areas where we are starting to see this trend take shape. Simply replacing old dated interior door knobs with sleek matte black ones will update your space and replacing those old cabinet knobs and pulls with new black ones will tell your friends that you are totally “with it” when it comes to design.
Victoria + Albert baths have recently launched an entire collection of tubs with options for color on the exterior. The black is by far my favorite. Talk about luxury! So, whether you are remodeling your home, bathroom or simply adding some small decorate accents to your home, consider adding in a few elements in black. It’s bold and sassy and commands your attention. You might just stay a little ahead of the design curve while you’re at it!
